Engine Management Light:
The engine management light on your dash is also known as the EML. This light comes on when one or more of your sensors are not functioning properly Or the Maps that are set in your factory computer have gone over there set parameters (Please refer to the diagram below).

Fuel Trims:
Monitored by the Oxygen sensors, Fuel trims are used to (+) add or (-) subtract fuel from the engine. Why were fuel trims created? In order for vehicle manufacturers to comply with EPA emissions regulations.

Oxygen Sensors:
The purpose for Oxygen sensors which are fitted in the Exhaust systems is to sample the Air Fuel mixture & along with many other sensors located on your motor relay messages back to the factory computer on what’s happening at various points in the engine.

The Air Flow Meter:
In your VE Commodore the Air Flow Meter, Also known as a Maf sensor, is used to calculate the amount of air flowing thru the sensor & into your engine. The engines uses rpm in conjunction with the (MAF) to calculate engine load.

Factory Computer:
The factory computer has basic maps & parameters Tuned / Programmed in by the Manufacturer. Apart from the basics, the purpose of the computer is to carry out necessary adjustments to:

  • Fuel / Spark / Timing maps depending on the information it receives from these sensors

The EML light coming on is not a common problem, but can arise on some vehicle from time to time which are more sensitive than others.In your case, (as shown in the graph below) the fuel trim maps have gone over the factory set ( + / - ) 15% parameter limit & triggered the engine light on the dash now to come on. The factory sensors mentioned above are all working properly & have recognised the extra air now entering the engine, but the factory computer as yet has not compensated for that extra air.

This is not a product fault, Regardless of which Brand / Company Intake product that you install, you may still experience the same outcome with the EML. This EML light coming on is not only pinned down to Cold Air Intakes. On some cars fitting a Sports Exhaust it has been known to trigger the EML light. If you do happen to experience an EML light coming on or have a combination of both Intake & Exhaust fitted to your vehicle and the light hasn’t gone away within the first 500km’s of driving, then we do strongly recommend a custom tune be carried out, as the factory parameters are stretched to there limit.

3 simple things we recommend you do:

  1. If your using that rubbish E10 fuel get rid of it. Fill up your next tank with 95 or 98 Octane fuel. Even thou your fuel cap say’s E10 suitable, we do not recommend it for high compression engine.
  2. Disconnect your car battery for at least 15 mins. This will reset the factory computer and wipe out the engine light fault on the dash.
  3. Drive your car for at least 300 to 500km for the computer can learn the new values. If the EML light doesn’t go off by then a Custom Tune is required.

Does this intake retain the factory AFM/MAF sensor?

Yes. The Orssom OTR reuses the factory MAF (also called AFM/Air Flow Meter) and plugs straight into the OEM harness. Keeping the stock sensor position and signal quality preserves factory manners and minimises the risk of check-engine lights while delivering a measurable airflow improvement.

What performance gains should I expect?

Drivers typically report crisper throttle response, stronger mid-range pull, and a more willing top-end compared to the stock airbox and snorkel. Results vary with vehicle condition, ambient temps, and supporting mods, but the core benefit is cooler, denser air delivered via the OTR path, an efficiency win you can feel in day-to-day driving.

Will it make more induction noise?

Under load you’ll hear a deeper, sportier induction note that suits the SV6 character, while cruise remains civil for daily use. Many owners love the subtle WOT growl without resorting to a loud exhaust, this kit keeps your VE refined on the highway and fun when you lean on it.

Is any cutting or permanent modification required?

No body cutting is required for VE SIDI in the MY10–MY11 range. The kit uses existing mounting points and is shaped to clear factory components, giving you a clean, reversible install that looks at home under the bonnet. Just follow the step-by-step guide and take your time with sensor orientation and clamps.

How do I maintain the filter and how often?

Check the filter at routine service intervals or sooner if you drive in dusty conditions. Clean and re-oil (if applicable) per the filter manufacturer’s instructions, or replace when due. A clean filter keeps restriction low, protecting your engine and preserving the gains from your Orssom Performance Cold Air Intake.

Is the OTR safe to use in heavy rain?

Yes. The design draws cool ambient air while shielding against splash in normal road use. As with any intake, avoid deep water crossings, liquid ingestion can damage an engine. If you’ve driven through heavy spray, a quick post-drive visual check is a smart precaution.

Can I run this with an exhaust or other bolt-ons?

Absolutely. The Orssom over-the-radiator intake is a great foundation for staged upgrades. Pair it with high-flow exhaust components and, if desired, a custom tune to unlock compounding gains in response and efficiency, without compromising daily drivability.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Registered Design No: 329032

SUITS: HOLDEN VE V6 3.6L COMMODORE

Fitted with 3.6L Sidi Engine 4 / 2009 to July 2011

Note: A Custom Tune is recommended when fitting this product

Step 1: Removal of Factory air box assembly

  1. Remove engine cover (lift cover up and it will unclip) Diag 1 (A)
  2. Disconnect air breather hose from port located at rear of silencer Diag 1 (B)
  3. Un-plug wiring harness from Air Flow Sensor & remove sensor Diag 1 (C)
  4. Loosen all hose clamps & remove air box silencer Diag 1 (D)
  5. Unclip & remove top air box lid & remove air filter Diag 1 (E)
  6. Undo 2x 10mm nuts, remove lower air box assembly from vehicle Diag 1 (F)

Note: The rear lug of the lower air box may be a bit tight to get past the battery terminal. Remove inner rubber grommet for a bit more clearance.

Step 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Fit the 3 speed clips supplied onto lugs as shown in Diag 1 (G)
  2. Follow Airflow Meter harness to Y junction at main wiring loom, which is located behind power steering Diag (2). Unwrap approx 40 / 50 mm of electrical tape from main wiring loom & separate AFM harness from main loom Diag (2B). Re-insulate wiring harness with electrical tape after the installation is finished.
  3. Fit Airflow Meter to adapter at rear of intake & tighten screws.
  4. Place rubber bellow & clamp supplied over Airflow Meter adapter. Place existing factory hose clamp onto other side of rubber bellow & lower intake box into position sliding rubber bellow over throttle body at the same time.
  5. Connect wiring harness to AFM sensor, making sure it has some slack. Keep wiring away from belts & pulleys. Push the factory air breather hose over the breather adapter supplied and clip it in.
  6. Fit K&N Air filter into place & sit Top Intake cover on. Screw the cover bolts on but leave loose. Align front of the intake cover flush with the radiator support & tighten the 3 screws at front first. If the intake cover sits up on the passenger side, you may have to push the air conditioner pipe across a little. Finally tighten the 4 main Intake cover bolts.
  7. Cut or unclip & remove hood seal as shown in Diag (4). Failure to do so will restrict air flow into engine.

Step 3: Important

Start Vehicle & let idle for a few minutes. Car may stumble or run rough upon initial start up, this is quite normal until computer starts relearning new air values. Give it a few good rev’s & it should start to clear itself out.

Take car for drive. Some vehicles may experience within the first 500km of driving an engine light appearing on the dash. If engine light doesn’t go away within this initial self learn calibration stage a Custom Tune will be required. Vehicles that don’t experience any Engine light issues, Tuning is Optional.
